Above, Below & Beyond
CCP asks CCG the deep questions about their craft
What gets you out of bed every day?
Coffee - pets - and knowing we will finally be able to show the great art we see through the shop/lab in our very own gallery… but can we have the coffee first?
2. Who is the photographer/artist that has inspired you the most?
Not just one, but every single photographer and artist whose work we see every day.. it was hard to choose for the first exhibition and we hope you like the mix of styles and genres as we do. We also hope there is a another chance to show more work later on... watch this space!
3. What current software are you using that could be useful for future exhibitors?
We have a variety of up to date technology and software programs that help prepare digital files ready to print and also speaks nicely to our printers. We even have a brand new printer just for the new shop/lab! Another important aspect of our technology is to have the monitors regularly calibrated to ensure we get the best from everyone’s work.
4. In the Gallery do you play music?
Yes we love our music. Each staff member gets to choose a playlist at different times too. Music helps to keep our minds and souls calm and in good vibes. We hope this transfers to our customers too. Galleries can often feel like a serious space where you can make noise or talk loud. In our gallery we don’t mind loud or lots of chatter….
5. In the digital world how important is the print?
We consider the print to be one of the most important things to every person. it’s a known fact that a photo will be one of the first items to be saved if faced by imminent danger of flood and fires etc. Prints evoke memories so saving these seems to be high a priority.
Plus having a tangible item that can hang on a wall is far more satisfying than trying to find a digital file in a computer.
6. B/W - Colour - Analogue - Digital.
Put these words in your order of preference and tell us why.
1 - Digital because we need these to print from no matter what our customers shoot on
2 - Analogue - because we stock film for those who love their images old school
3 & 4 - no faves as we are happy to print and frame any style for our customers, though some staff members say they love B/W more than colour.. guess which ones?
7. How important is the framing process to you?
Very. Framing is one our signature products if you like. We treat each job as a custom order to ensure you get exactly what you want rather than trying to stuff work in standard frames. Nothing ever good comes from that!
8. What defines a great image?
Something that evokes an emotion and is memorable.
9. What is your favourite photo? Why?
We have no favourites. We encourage and love all artwork, and helping to bring out the best in each one.
10. Have you ever exhibited your work before?
No.
ABOVE, BELOW and BEYOND will be the first exhibition in the new CC Gallery and we’re quite excited. Yes it’s a bit of a POP UP version but it’s a great start to what may well be a new path for us.
11. When you are not printing or framing or being in your gallery, what are you doing?
Dreaming of new events and way to help our photography and arts community stay alive and well.. and perhaps another coffee or cheeky red at the end of the day!
Thanks.
